Dr. Adrian Todor
In the autumn of 2017 I had the opportunity to travel to the United States and visit Dr. Stetson as part of an International Scholarship offered by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS).
Of course, I felt great joy and excitement when I received the news of winning the scholarship for shoulder surgery. My first week was scheduled at Stetson Powell Orthopedics in Burbank, CA.
I flew from Cluj Napoca, my home town, which by the way, is a really beautiful city in the heart of Transilvania, Romania with one of the best medical universities in the country, “Iuliu Hatieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, which I am proud to be a part of.
I arrived in the states, Sunday 24th of September and already the next day was announced to be busy and I was looking forward to the experience.
Monday morning I arrived at Stetson Powell Orthopedics where I was welcomed by a very nice and friendly staff. I met with Dr. William Stetson who I have previously met in Romania at our national orthopedic meeting in 2013 and later became partners in a AAOS-Romania shoulder program. He also made me feel very welcome from the first second I arrived and started working. It was a busy Monday as we saw patients mostly with shoulder pathology. I immediately realized how effective things were, as Dr. Stetson and his great team saw patients in about 6 different rooms and everything ran smoothly, until about 16:00 o’clock , 60-70 patients were examined. The day was very instructive for me as and I picked up good information on how to organize an effective clinic and approach patients with shoulder pathology state of the art.
The next day was surgery day at the Alameda Surgery Center, which is located immediately adjacent to the orthopedic center. I observed Dr. Stetson performing shoulder surgery, mainly arthroscopies, again very instructive, He is a great teacher, obviously enjoying what he does.
Dr. Stetson assured that I had a great professional and social experience. In one afternoon he had booked for me and two of his pre med interns a Warner Brothers tour which was very interesting and fun. Overall an amazing week at Stetson Powell Orthopedics – very educational and fun! I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Stetson for the experience and the teachings, which will definitely improve my practice. Your professionalism is very inspiring and motivational.
